MEET Ashanti Brawner

READING INSTRUCTOR

As an enthusiastic, 21st century educator, Ashanti Brawner strives to not only develop minds, but also touch hearts to make an impact in the lives of our future. Ashanti applies Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy Theory to her own educational philosophy. In correlation with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, Ashanti is adamant about creating a safe, fun-loving, learning environment every day for every scholar.

Mrs. Brawner is a former reading specialist who currently serves as a GNETS (Georgia Network for Educational  and Therapeutic Support) special education teacher  in  the Thomaston-Upson County School System. Her role is designed to adapt classroom instruction in accordance with the Individualized Education Program (IEP) as developed based upon the student’s identified needs for the purpose of providing a method to support and/or reinforce classroom objectives.

She was born and raised in Thomaston, Georgia; she is a 2009 graduate of Upson-Lee High School. In 2013, Ashanti received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Georgia Southwestern State University. She also received her Master of Science in Education and Education Specialist Degree from Georgia Southwestern State University.

Ashanti is an active member in her community and school because she understands the power of relationships.

Ashanti is a firm believer that teaching, and learning begins with forming relationships first. The most well-planned lesson will not be effective if a scholar feels unloved, useless, isolated, and unsafe. The legendary life-long educator, Rita Pierson stated, “Every child needs a champion.” Ashanti strives to be a champion for every scholar she encounters.

“Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." -Benjamin Franklin
