“To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society.” ~Theodore Roosevelt
My name is Kimberley Andrews, founder of Rising Scholar Learning Center, where I also actively serve as one of the math instructors for rising 5th and 6th graders. Since the age of 6, teaching has always been a passion of mine. In 2019 I decided to turn my passion into purpose. Helping our young scholars to grow academically and personally is at the top of our list. We are here to help our young scholars gain the confidence they need to master reading and math.
A little about my background in education: In 1999 I earned my diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education from Flint River Technical College (now known as Southern Crescent Technical College). Before entering the public school system, I worked for 7 years as an ESOL teacher at the GA. Baptist Children’s Home & Family Ministries to unaccompanied minors from various countries who were awaiting unification with families in the United States. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Mercer University in 2003, followed by a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Phoenix in 2009, and lastly, a Gifted Endorsement in 2015. I was named Lamar County Elementary School Teacher of the Year 2013-2014 and served as grade level chairperson there for multiple years. In 2019, I came back to my hometown, currently teaching in the Thomaston-Upson County School system as a fifth grade math/science teacher where I am also a part of the school’s leadership team.
My belief is that if we can help students to understand math (not just memorize steps), they won’t feel defeated by it; it will all start to make sense.
